1. FIBRE OPTICS:

  • Introduction to Fibre Optics.
  • Identifying the benefits of optical fibre as a medium of transmission.
  • Differentiate the types of optical fibres and their characteristics.
  • Understand the optical fibre communication system and its components.
  • Recognise the types of fibre optic modes of transmission (single
  • and multi-modes) as well as their characteristics.
  • FTTH and FTTB Networks.
  • Introduction to ribbon splicing.
  • Field splice-on connectors.
  • Field mechanic connectors.

 

2. SPLICING

  • Cable-end preparation.
  • Enclosures preparation.
  • Buffer-tube attachments.
  • Cables and optic fibre splicing.
  • Introduction to ribbon cable splicing.
  • Optic fibre and buffer tubes coiling.
  • Splice trays attachment.
  • Enclosure finishing.

 

3. TESTING

  • Correctly setting an OTDR machine for performance.
  • Trace, analyse and interpret events.
  • Create file names and store OTDR traces.
  • Utilise the Visual Fault Locator (VFL).
